The CDN Is Now an Application Runtime

What changes when your edge platform can execute code, mutate responses, and hold state.

The line between CDN and application runtime has effectively dissolved. Edge platforms now offer KV stores, durable objects, queues, and full HTTP request mutation. That changes what belongs where: authentication, A/B testing, personalization, rate limiting, and significant fragments of business logic now live at the edge in production systems.

The architectural implication is a thinner origin and a fatter edge — which is great for performance and demanding on testing discipline.
